Child (5) from Alphen aan den Rijn infected with corona virus

According to the GGD, the child is currently in home insulation. “Contacts of the patient are currently being approached by the GGD and receive rules and instructions on how to handle complaints,” says GGD Hollands Midden. “If these contacts receive complaints that fit the new corona virus, they will also be placed in isolation and tested for the new corona virus.”

Mayor Liesbeth Spies responded to the corona infection in Alphen aan den Rijn on Monday evening. According to her, the entire family of the 5-year-old child is in home insulation. “You can deduce from this that the situation is not very serious,” she says. The mayor announced that the family was on winter sports in northern Italy.

New infections

The RIVM and the GGD remain alert to new infections. ‘They apply the same protocol when new patients are found: isolation, contact research and continuous monitoring of the patient. These measures reduce the chance that the disease can spread in the Netherlands. “

The RIVM announced earlier that eight new infections had been added until Monday. According to GGD Haaglanden and Hollands Midden, there were no cases from our region yet. With the most recent case in Alphen aan den Rijn, at least 19 corona infections are now known in the Netherlands.

Delft

Last Saturday it was announced that a 23-year-old student from Delft was infected with the corona virus. She too has been on holiday in northern Italy. The woman was in home isolation for the first few days. In the meantime, the GGD has decided to transfer her to another living space, because insulation in her student residence is difficult to sustain. The Delft student is doing reasonably well.

The GGD asks people with health problems to call the national information number (0800-1351) before they consult the doctor. People with questions about the corona virus can also go there. If complaints get worse, the doctor must be called. Earlier it was called to call the practice and not to visit the doctor themselves. This is to prevent possible contamination of others.

Home stay advice

To lend a hand to overburdened general practitioners and GGDs, the RIVM also made a call on Monday afternoon: only people with severe symptoms such as a high fever in combination with shortness of breath should call the doctor. “The vast majority of people will recover by themselves and therefore do not need to call a doctor,” RIVM said.

According to the RIVM, it is ‘no problem’ that some infections are not registered in this way. The advice to stay at home immediately with disease symptoms only applies to people who have recently been to one of the high-risk countries: China, South Korea, Iran, part of Japan and northern Italy. People from, for example, Loon op Zand, where the first Dutch patient comes from, don’t need that.
