The Chicago Finance Committee approved this week to extend for two more years an ordinance that began as a pilot program and that imposes a $15,000 fine on construction companies for demolishing houses, condos and two-unit buildings in neighborhoods such as Pilsen, Logan Square and the 606 trail. The measure seeks to reduce urban displacement, also known as gentrification.
