A beautiful soul is extinguished. Chi Chi Devayne, iconic contestant of the eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, died on August 20, 2020. Zavion Davenport, whose real name was, was only 34 years old. This tragedy comes after a complicated medical journey. On social networks, the drag queen had explained twice to be bedridden in the hospital. She was living with systemic scleroderma, a rare, potentially fatal disease that attacks the mucous membranes and tissues under the skin, around organs and blood vessels. It was pneumonia that got the better of her, as announced by her management and members of her family.
The queer scene had been praying for her for a while. In July 2020, Chi Chi Devayne had been taken care of by a medical institution because of kidney failure. She had returned there the following August 16, a few days before her death. She had then appeared on social networks, considerably thinner, pipes along her body and face, asking that we have a little thought for her. Her sisters had publicly shared Zavion Davenport’s PayPal details, hoping she would get some help paying for her care.
