It is terror and amazement in the world of Misses. According to information revealed by the American press, including “People”, Cheslie Kryst, alias Miss USA 2019, died tragically on Sunday January 30, 2022. The 30-year-old young woman killed herself by jumping from the terrace of the 29th floor of his apartment building in central New York’s Midtown West. His body was found around 7 a.m. Before killing herself, the deceased had left a note in which she explained that she wanted to bequeath everything to her mother. However, she would not have explained her desperate gesture.
Former Miss North Carolina, Cheslie Kryst was elected Miss USA in May 2019. She then participated, the same year, in the Miss Universe competition, placing herself in the Top 10 with, among others, the Frenchwoman Maëva Coucke. On Instagram, the latter has also published a message to pay tribute to his missing colleague. “My heart is crying tonight…We just found out that one of my Miss Universe adventure sisters @chesliekryst has flown to the stars…Rest in peace angel you will never be forgotten,” she wrote.

Other Misses took to social media to express their grief, such as MaKenzie Divina, Miss South Carolina who competed alongside Cheslie in 2019 at Miss USA. “Cheslie. I hope you knew how much you were loved. I can’t understand how you felt, but what I do know is that you were an amazing person and your legacy will live on forever. The impact you have had on so many people, including myself, has been incredible. (…) The world will never be the same without you. I love you forever…”, wrote the young woman.

A brilliant lawyer
A law graduate and committed to the defense of civil rights, Cheslie Kryst was born to a father of Polish origins and an African-American mother. She came from a large family, with four brothers and one sister. Her mother, April Simpkins, had herself been crowned Mrs. North Carolina in 2002. “It is with profound devastation and sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shone. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as a social justice lawyer, as Miss USA and as a host on Extra. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague – we know her legacy will live on,” the family said in a statement.
