Chemnitz: Large DEFA documentary in MOPO-KINO – 169 minutes “Friedensfahrt” on DVD

On April 5th, another nostalgic spectacle awaits you in the Chemnitzer Morgenpost with the DVD “International Peace Journey”.

Chemnitz – The big DEFA series in the MOPO cinema! After the documentaries “Wintersport” and “Interflug” we present you on Tuesday with “Internationale Friedensfahrt” another nostalgic spectacle in the Chemnitz morning post.

The Friedensfahrt was considered the “Tour de France of the East” and took place for the first time in 1948 between Warsaw and Prague. From 1952 the internationally most important amateur cycle race was also held in Berlin. 94 riders from 16 nations cycled through the GDR for the first time. Tens of thousands of people cheered along the way and waved flags.

DEFA cameras even accompanied the spectacle over 2135 kilometers in color. The first documentation on the DVD shows great original scenes – also from Görlitz, Bautzen and Bad Schandau, where the participants could enjoy a day off.

But that’s not all! You will find a total of nine DEFA tracks with a total length of 169 minutes on the DVD. In addition to special reports on anniversaries of the Friedensfahrt, there are also excerpts from the race in 1959, which the GDR exceptional athlete Gustav-Adolf Schur (90), known as “Täve”, won.

The original commentary, which repeatedly addresses the ideological class struggle, is also interesting. For example, with a little jab at the West, it says: “The teams from the capitalist countries came despite all the difficulties.”

Get the Morgenpost with DVD on April 5th from your dealer for a bargain price of 3.80 euros. The MOPO “pure” without a film disc costs 1.10 euros.
