Chelsea and Liverpool prepare for the FA Cup final

Thomas Tuchel insisted that Chelsea will be ready to face one of the “strongest teams in the world” in the FA Cup final on May 14, after booking their return to Wembley to face Liverpool.

Five days after their elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid, Chelsea were able to console themselves by sealing their place in the FA Cup final, after beating Crystal Palace 2-0. Liverpool are still in Champions contention but Tuchel is confident Chelsea can push them all the way in their rematch at Wembley.

Thomas Tuchel’s men had to wait for the second half to get the win, against Crystal Palace with goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek (minute 65) and Mason Mount (75).

Chelsea will be aiming for their ninth FA Cup title, having won their last in 2018, while Liverpool will be seeking their eighth and have not lifted that trophy since 2006.

In the Premier League, Chelsea is third but off the hook in the fight for the title, so the FA Cup is presented as their opportunity to finish the course with a title, which would add to those achieved throughout the season in the European Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Chelsea suffered disappointment in the FA Cup final last season with a loss to Leicester, but Tuchel is focused on ending this campaign with a Wembley title.

“We can’t promise and all we can do now is be well prepared because it’s going to be another tough fight. Liverpool’s quality and form means it’s incredibly difficult to beat them, but that’s what the Cup final is all about. It’s about winning and we need to try and find a way to beat them. We need a bit of luck and, of course, everything at the highest level.”
