Checklist for Students Who Choose In-Person Learning

APS Schools Reopen Monday, April 5

Students in all grades have the choice of returning to their schools or continuing remote learning through the remainder of the school year. Please let your school know if your child will be returning to campus or continuing remote learning, and commit to that choice for the remainder of the school year.

Checklist for Students Who Choose In-Person Learning

Remember, we’re still dealing with a pandemic, so school will look and feel different.

Go to school!

Be on time and on-campus all school day from Monday, April 5, through Tuesday, May 25.

Share pictures on social media of the first week back to school using the hashtag: #APSisBack

Catch a ride if you can.

APS doesn’t have enough bus drivers to resume all routes, so it’s prioritizing transportation for students and areas with the highest needs. Walking groups and carpools are encouraged as safe options, and students can ride city buses for free. Please let your school know if you need help with transportation.

Dress in layers and bring a jacket or sweater.

Classroom windows, doors, and air conditioning dampers will be open to circulate fresh air, leading to fluctuating temperatures during the school day. Students who need jackets, other clothing including underwear and socks, or school supplies can get help through the APS Community Clothing Bank. Ask your teacher, counselor, or school social worker for assistance.

Bring your fully-charged Chromebook or iPad to class with you every day!

Because some of your classmates are still learning remotely, you’ll be spending part of each school day on your APS-issued device.

Bring a face mask and wear it all day

(except when you’re eating or drinking.) Extra face masks will be available at school if you forget.

Don’t forget your water bottle!

Students won’t be allowed to use water fountains, but water stations will be available to fill up reusable bottles.

Free breakfast and lunch will be served at school for all students!

Students at school will be encouraged to eat outside when possible, and lunch schedules will be staggered to avoid large groups. APS will continue to provide free grab and go meals for students learning at home.

Keep your distance!

Students and staff will be expected to social distance to the greatest extent possible, which means no large group activities or gatherings such as field trips, assemblies, and end-of-year festivals. APS does plan to hold limited in-person high school graduations in mid-May.

Don’t share!

Students should avoid sharing toys, playground equipment, musical instruments, supplies, books, and other materials.

Wash your hands!

School custodians will make it a priority to clean high-touch surfaces and stock bathrooms with soap and classrooms with hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies.

Sports and clubs are allowed.

APS will follow NMAA guidelines.

Sorry, no visitors on campus.

Know someone who wants to come back to APS?

Have them contact their previous school.

Stay in touch!

We will continue to provide updates through your school, the APS.edu website, Twitter and Facebook, and the media.
