Actually, the city council and the left-wing parties agree on housing policy that they all want to increase the proportion of cheap housing. But on Wednesday evening, the municipal councils of the Alternative List (AL) were annoyed with the city council. You even accuse him of fatalism in housing policy. An actual declaration of surrender is the submitted report of the city council on the development of housing construction from 2015 to 2019, said Patrik Maillard. “There is a standstill and it will stay that way.” The city does not show solutions.
The reason for this devastating vote: In the report, the city government writes that 2400 new non-profit apartments have been built in Zurich in the four years. Since private households are also building extremely briskly, the proportion of cheap apartments has not increased. In 2011, however, the electorate commissioned the city to increase the proportion to a third by 2050. Now it is almost 30 percent.
Mayor Corine Mauch (SP) countered that the city had made progress in the last eight years. The administration has the mandate to work out measures. And she mentioned that the city would have to increase the depreciation contributions to non-profit housing operators so that they could buy real estate.
