Charlie Chaplin’s daughter debunks the most romantic myth surrounding her father.

The most romantic myth about Charlie Chaplin was publicly debunked by his daughter Geraldine Chaplin, who is in our capital for the premiere of her film “Luca”, part of the “Sofia Film Fest” program.

She denied the existence of a letter-confession to her from her famous father, Charlie Chaplin, distributed to the media in Bulgaria and around the world.

“This letter was written by an Iranian journalist. It’s a wonderful letter. I wish I had received it, but there is no such thing,” said the actress.

Bulgarians are mystical people. I always wanted to come to Bulgaria, said the world-famous actress, granddaughter of Nobel laureate Eugene O’Neill, at a press conference on the occasion of the premiere of “Luka”.

According to her, it is the mysticism in the film – a co-production between Bulgaria, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Armenia – that will “hit” the Bulgarian viewer.

In the film “Luke” Geraldine played the role of the General – a male role, but written especially for her.

“Yes, I play the role of the General in this movie. Jessica, the director and writer of the movie asked me, ‘Can you play a man?’ And I said, ‘Well, I’ll try.’ timbre. But he or she looks more like some kind of reptile, some kind of human-reptile,” commented the star. The tape was inspired by the novel “The Tatar Desert” by Dino Budzati, and one of the key roles was entrusted to the Bulgarian actor Valentin Ganev, BGNES recalled.

It tells the story of young soldier Luke (played by Jonas Smulders), who, longing to enter battle, heads north to the legendary fortress of Kairos, where, according to rumors, his fellow soldiers heroically defend the last remnants of civilization.

“Luke” is a film about sacrifice and the collapse of the illusion of grandeur,” as Geraldine Chaplin herself defined it in an earlier interview.

Bulgaria actively participated in the creation of the film. Co-producer from the Bulgarian side is “Art Fest”, and financing is provided by the National Film Center. The project is supported by the “Creative Europe” program of the EU Media and Euroimage. The premiere of the film will take place on Saturday – March 25, in Hall 1 of the NDK.

“Bulgarians are mystical people. They come from the East, they invented the clock and whatnot. So this mystical film will hit the viewer hard in your country,” she said.
