King Charles III was officially appointed this Sunday monarch of Australia and New Zealand, during the ceremonies held in these two nations to celebrate his accession to the throne.

In Canberra, Governor Typical David Hurley proclaimed that “Prince Charles Philip Arthur George is King Charles III, by the grace of God, King of Australia”.

In a very similar ceremony in Wellington, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern greeted Charles, declaring he “has a long-standing fondness for New Zealand and has continually proven his deep fascination in our nation.” Equally ceremonies ended up pure formality.

A public holiday in Australia

These two former British colonies are independent for many years, but retains the monarch as head of state.

Australian Key Minister Anthony Albanese, who will depart for London this week to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, has declared that September 22 will be a general public holiday break in Australia to celebrate her passing.
