The commemorative medal of the Charlemagne Prize, which was presented today to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Aachen, Germany, fell from its stand during his speech of thanks.
“Modern Russia has gone aggressive not only against us, a free independent country, not only against united Europe as a global symbol of peace and prosperity. This is Russia’s war for the past. Overcoming kilometers of Ukrainian territory, Russia is trying to overcome the years of European history, our history. We are faced with an aggressor who goes to any cruelty.”
Against the backdrop of such statements by the Ukrainian president, the medal flew off the stand, Zelensky had to put it back in place with a bow. This caused some excitement in the hall and even, it seems, ridicule.

The Charlemagne Prize, we recall, is awarded for contribution to the unification of Europe.
