Chaotic! This is the culprit behind the increase in fuel prices in Indonesia

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia PT Pertamina (Persero) officially raised the prices of a number of types of fuel oil (BBM) as of Thursday (3/3/2022). Pertamina said the increase in the price of Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite, and Pertamina Dex fuels was carried out because they followed the development of fuel prices in the international market which was skyrocketing as a result of the war in Ukraine.

This explanation was conveyed by the Acting Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Pertamina’s Subholding Commercial & Trading, Irto Ginting. He said the increase in fuel prices that took effect today did not affect the selling price of Pertamax and Pertalite fuels.

“The price of Pertamax and Pertalite fuel has not changed. The three BBK (Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite and Pertadex) are non-subsidized fuel oil for the wealthy, and their portion is only 3% of the total national fuel consumption,” said Irto in his written statement.

Irto said that Pertamina will make regular adjustments to the selling price of fuel. This is in accordance with the mandate of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree (Kepmen) No. 62 K/12/MEM/2020 concerning Basic Price Formula in Calculation of Retail Sales Prices for General Fuel Oil Types of Gasoline and Diesel Oil Channeled Through Public Fuel Filling Stations.

“Adjustments follow global market prices and are in accordance with MEMR regulations. And prices will be adjustedreview regularly every two weeks. Even though other operators have adjusted their prices first, Pertamina’s fuel prices are still more competitive,” he said.

The increase in the selling price of Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite, and Pertamina Dex occurred in the range of Rp. 850 – Rp. 1,600 per liter. The following is the latest list of Pertamina’s fuel prices at all Indonesian gas stations which is effective starting Thursday, March 3, 2022:

Previously, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also highlighted the upward trend in high oil prices, the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Jokowi stated that before the war between Russia and Ukraine occurred, world oil prices had already increased due to supply shortages. Jokowi asked all his staff to be careful in increasing the price of fuel and LPG, because it could have an impact on increases in other sectors.
