Chaotic! Temperatures in Asia & Africa will touch 60 degrees Celsius

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Temperatures in the Middle East and North Africa can touch 60 degrees Celsius. It is even predicted to be hotter than that number.

The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) area is predicted to experience a heat wave due to climate change.

The heat wave caused water shortages in the region. Apart from being unable to grow food due to extreme weather and drought, spikes in deaths and health problems.

“Weekly weeks or even months, the scorching heat will be potentially life-threatening,” the scientists wrote, quoted by Al Jazeera, Tuesday (16/11/2021).

A recent Nature study found that by 2100, 600 million people or 50% of the region’s population could experience super-extreme weather events. This happens when the current greenhouse gases continue.

“We anticipate that the maximum temperature during a heatwave in some urban centers and major cities in MENA could reach or even exceed 60°C, which will be very disturbing to the public”.

The study’s lead author, George Zittis, said the increased hazard occurred when the humidity was higher as ocean evaporation increased.

“Heat stress during the summer will reach or exceed the human survival threshold, at least in some parts of the region and for the hottest months,” he explained.

This hot temperature will occur in a number of urban centers in the region. Starting from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dhahran and Bandar Abbas. In addition, the effects of hot temperatures will occur in many countries. Like water shortages, it affects more than 12 million people in Syria and Iraq.

There are also food and electricity shortages, low rainfall and drought. The entire region suffers from a shortage of drinking water and agriculture.

It is even predicted that water scarcity can become a financial burden. The MENA government will lose 7-14% of gross domestic product by 2050.
