Chaos threatens at the start of the summer holiday: Brussels Airlines pilot unions submit strike notice | Inland

The unions of the pilots at Brussels Airlines submit a strike notice of indefinite duration. It should become clear on Wednesday whether the cabin crew is also thinking of going on strike. A date for a possible strike has not yet been set.

Ninety percent of pilots voted for a strike, unions say. Both the pilots and the cabin crew are dissatisfied with the workload. The increased demand for air travel is putting pressure on work organisation, it said. The pilots are also dissatisfied that the management does not want to index their cafeteria plan, a budget for fringe benefits.

It has not yet been determined when the unions want to disrupt air traffic. But they don’t want to wait long. Perhaps it will be at the end of June. The date will be announced on Wednesday 15 June, says BBTK trade unionist Olivier Van Camp. Then it will also become clear whether the cabin crew supports the action.

Strike of several days

The strike will not be limited to one day, but Van Camp promises that the unions will communicate well “so that travelers can take their precautions”.

The management can still prevent the strike, says Van Camp. “But a deaf conversation no longer makes sense.” The unions made proposals at the reconciliation meeting on Tuesday, he says. For example, they want to make agreements about the summer period in an emergency collective labor agreement.

The announcement by the management that it wants to cancel 148 flights is not enough for the unions. “We didn’t ask that. We don’t think it will be enough either, out of a total of 12,400 flights in two months.”
