Coach Rogério Ceni was very much asked for the options he made in Flamengo’s defeat against Fluminense last Sunday (4). The coach did not like the charges and explained what he was looking for with the entries of Thiago Maia, Max and Rodrigo Muniz in the second half.
At the press conference, he insisted on highlighting Rubro-Negro’s control in the duel and his search for changes in order to win. He also highlighted that the exchanges made by the rival did not lead to tactical changes. “Fluminense made the changes, position by position,” he said.
However, the changes made by Roger Machado had much more effect than Ceni’s. Kayky, Luiz Henrique and André, the author of the goal, were involved in the play that culminated in the tricolor triumph at Neo Química Arena, for the ninth round of the Brasileirão.
João Gomes left the team 25 minutes into the second half. The athlete had been the main responsible for marking in midfield and gave little space to the rival. Ceni also hit hard on the key that the big mistake made on the field was the waste in submissions. Even acknowledging the flaw, he seems aware that the work developed will be enough to reverse the situation. “I train a lot of submissions and I want to continue being superior to all opponents and being purposeful, we have more control of the game. I hope that, at the right moment, the chances we create are converted into a goal,” he said.
To top it off, Ceni started the press conference citing the absences in midfield. Diego is injured, Gerson was sold, Everton Ribeiro is in Copa América with Brazil and Arrascaeta was also in the tournament, but Uruguay was eliminated this Saturday (3). It is evident that these parts are lacking for the team, however it is the technician’s job to seek resources so that their lack is alleviated. After all, he knows the pressure is great. “We don’t even do the accounts of the players abroad, the embezzlement or not. Flamengo always wants to win”, he declared.
The chance to rehabilitate in the tournament will be this Wednesday. For the 10th round, Fla visits the Atlético-MG at Mineirão this Wednesday (7), at 7pm. With two games less than most teams, Rubro-Negro has 12 points and occupies the ninth place in the table.
