Champions: Sancho and Reus drag Dortmund to the quarterfinals, PSV eliminated

After the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Eindhoven, Borussia Dortmund took advantage of home advantage against PSV (2-0) and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Terzic’s team broke the balance after just the 3rd minute: Brandt at the limit provided a backwards assist to Sancho who with a precise right-footed shot put the ball into the corner to Benitez’s right. On the wings of enthusiasm, the yellow and blacks persisted, again using the visiting goalkeeper with Brandt and Malen. Only after the half hour did PSV have a surge of pride by calling Kobel into play for the first time with Bakayoko. Between the two halves, however, Borussia once again became dangerous twice with Malen.

Post by Lozano, Reus enters and closes the score

As the minutes passed, the Dutch began to push with more insistence, hitting an outside post with Lozano and worrying Kobel with Teze and Bakayoko. The yellow and blacks did not stand idly by and came close to doubling their lead with Fullkrug who, in the 77th minute, also saw the 2-0 annulled (right-footed counter-ball from a free-kick-cross by substitute Reus) by the VAR for offside. In the final, PSV tried everything but didn’t find the necessary energy to equalize with Lozano, Teze and especially de Jong (high left-footed shot from an excellent position in the 94th minute). Borussia thanked them and in the last second of injury time (95′) closed the throw-in with Reus, quick to take advantage of a slip by Babadi, who had just entered.
