Chamber wants to discuss support quickly after press conference | Inland

The House spoke on Wednesday afternoon about the support package that the cabinet had set up after the announcement of the current measures, such as the early closure of shops and catering and restrictions on events. But with a new press conference and accompanying measures in sight, the debate felt outdated before it even started.

“I am sitting here with quite some discomfort,” says VVD MP Aartsen. “Everything we do here tonight, we will vote on it on Tuesday, and then new measures have already been announced.” The House therefore decided to share its own input, but not to continue talking with the cabinet until next week in order to be able to tackle the current situation.

‘Don’t fool each other’

Many MPs already assume that stricter and longer measures will be taken. “I don’t think we should fool each other, it will not be less with the measures,” says SP MP Van Kent. CDA member Amhaouch also thinks this is ‘very real’. CU Member of Parliament Grinwis criticized the previous corona intervention en passant: “There was only a slight touch against corona. That hard blow from Rutte and De Jonge will have to be much harder.”

In anticipation of new measures, the House has already put down a wish list. In any case, the coalition parties want tax deferrals for entrepreneurs again. Because they ‘need money now and not next week’, says D66 MP De Jong.

And the wage support, via the NOW scheme, must also be reintroduced, with retroactive effect. As far as VVD member Aartsen is concerned, the cabinet will not wait until next Friday’s press conference: “I can hope that NOW is already well under way.”
