Chad: Soldiers kill around 1,000 Boko Haram fighters

During a multi-day anti-terrorist operation by the Chad army, around a thousand fighters of the Islamist terrorist militia Boko Haram were killed. The government troops announced.

Army spokesman Azem Bermendoa Agouna said 52 soldiers had died in the fighting in the Lake Chad region. 196 others were injured. The area borders the northeast of Nigeria as well as the Niger and Cameroon, government and militias have been fighting there for years, according to the Reuters news agency. The Chad army started the operation on March 31 after members of Boko Haram killed nearly 100 soldiers.

As in Chad, Boko Haram has been terrorizing the population in these countries for years with raids and attacks. The extremists’ goal is to strictly interpret Islamic law, Sharia law. Since 2009, more than 20,000 people have been killed in attacks by the group, and around two million people have fled.
