Ch. Doukas: “It is a great honor that the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece ends in Athens” – 2024-03-14 21:59:57

The cooperation of the Municipality of Athens and the Ministry of Sports for this year’s organization PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024was sealed today during the meeting of the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, with the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yiannis Vroutsis.

The Mayor of Athens noted: “It is my great pleasure that we, as the Municipality of Athens, participate in this very important event, the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024. We consider this great sporting event to be a great upgrade for our country and it is a great honor that it ends up in our city, Athens.

At the same time, it is planned to organize many actions and activities for the residents. We will do our best to welcome cyclists. Overall, I like the Minister’s philosophy very much because another program is moving forward that does not only concern championships but is mainly aimed at the common citizen, the “Sports for all” program. Of course, we will actively participate in this effort as well.”

Starting from Thessaloniki and finishing in Athens

In his statements, the Deputy Minister of Sports pointed out: “I welcome the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, as an institutional co-organizer of the huge event. The race will unite the two major urban centers of Greece, starting from Thessaloniki and ending in Athens, after crossing the “backbone” of the country from north to south. Katerini, Karditsa, Karpenissi, Sperchiada and Chalkida will be the intermediate stations, with the “royal” stage (17/5) that will finish in Velouhi (1,852 m.) dominating the entire event. We want the event to succeed for many reasons, sporting, touristic, strengthening the local communities financially as well.”

Mr. Vroutsis symbolically presented Mr. Doukas with a bicycle and the necessary helmet for road safety, with the Mayor of Athens noting: “Thank you very much for your gift, which, of course, I will use. It fits perfectly with the approach we have for a green, citizen-friendly, bicycle-friendly Athens.”

The PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024, will start from Thessaloniki on May 15th and will culminate on the last day (19/5) in a, by all accounts, magical route that will start from the Acropolis, head to the Athenian Riviera and will end at the Panathenaic Stadium, offering a continuous rotation of images. The cultural heritage and modern Athens will travel to millions of television screens around the world, promoting both the match and the entire country as a tourist destination.
