CEZ’s net profit for the first half of the year is 33.6 billion

According to the company, the increase in net profit was, in addition to operational effects, also caused by last year’s loss of 11.6 billion crowns related to asset write-offs.

ČEZ now expects a full-year net profit for this year of between 60 and 65 billion crowns. “The current full-year profit forecast indicates a record dividend for shareholders. In the case of setting the dividend at the upper limit of the interval of the applicable dividend policy, CZK 48 to 52 billion would be distributed among the shareholders. For the majority shareholder, the Czech Republic, this would mean an income of 34 to 36 billion CZK,” said Daniel Beneš, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ČEZ.

Electricity production from renewable and nuclear sources rose by one percent year-on-year to 16.8 TWh in the first half of the year. Conversely, production from coal and steam-gas sources fell by six percent to ten TWh due to lower production at the Počerady power plant.

Consumption fell

Electricity consumption in the distribution territory of ČEZ Distribuce decreased by four percent year-on-year, and if calculated according to climate and calendar, then by two percent.

Large businesses consumed two percent less electricity, households 11 percent less. Above average temperatures in the first half of this year had an effect on this. In the first half of last year, people also worked from home more often due to the covid epidemic.

CEZ is the largest Czech energy company. Its majority shareholder is the state, which holds roughly 70 percent of the shares through the Ministry of Finance.
