Today the first leg of the quarterfinals of the CEV Champions League Volley 2024 was presented. The match will take place this Thursday, starting at 6:30 p.m. (local time), at the Insular Sports Center. Present at the event were Leocadio Afonso, president of the Rafael Afonso Group, Juan Ruiz, president of the Guaguas Volleyball Club, and the players Miguel Ángel de Amo and Nico Bruno. “We are very excited that the club has chosen the facilities of the Rafael Afonso Group in this preview of one of the most important matches in its history. It is a pride for us to be able to go hand in hand with a historic Canary Islands sports club,” said Leocadio Afonso.
The president of the Group Rafael Afonso wanted to praise “the great work that president Juan Ruiz does at the head of the club, it is a pleasure to see the growth of the team year after year with players who leave everything on the court. Everything they are achieving is the result of great effort. I am sure that tomorrow there will be a fantastic volleyball match that will make everyone in the stands enjoy themselves. What this club is doing deserves all the support and I have no doubt that tomorrow there will be a spectacular atmosphere during the match,” he concluded.
“We have to turn the page on the Cup, it has been a joy for us, but we have to think about the next game. We don’t have time for celebrations, but we are aware of the season we are having,” stressed Miguel Ángel de Amo. The setter, recently named MVP of the Copa del Rey, believes that “we have earned the right to be in the quarterfinals, I think that hasn’t happened in Spain for many years. We are in the position where everyone wanted to be. It is a pride, we are going to try to represent the Canary Islands and Spanish volleyball as best as possible.”
Nico Bruno, chosen MVP in the last European phase, considers that “a great game awaits us, it is just another final, as we advance in Europe the level goes up, and so does the expectation. It will be historic for the club, nice to play for us.” The Argentine receiver is clear that: “fatigue is normal due to the amount of game we have been dragging on, the most important thing is that the team is united, has confidence. We have to go out calmly, give everything on the court, and enjoy a quarterfinal, it is something spectacular and you never know when it will be your turn again.”
For his part, Juan Ruiz, president of Club Voleibol Guaguas, recalled: “the relationship with the Rafael Afonso Group is special.
