CES 2020 – Samsung grafts a fingerprint sensor on its T7 Touch external SSD

With the T7 Touch, Samsung is not content to improve the theoretical speeds of its external SSD. The brand adds a fingerprint sensor to better secure the stored data.

Like the Samsung T3 before it, the T5 had established itself as one of the very best external SSDs on the market when it was released. Under these conditions, everyone expects the new T7 to be made of the same wood and knows how to win with a note of excellence. A T7 presented by Samsung at CES 2020 and available in two versions: the T7 and T7 Touch. It is also on the second that Samsung focuses all its communication, which is hardly surprising since it is the most innovative product, incorporating a fingerprint sensor to improve the security of data.

Offered in capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB, the Samsung T7 Touch and its case measuring 8.5 x 5.7 x 0.8 cm weigh only 58 g. Supporting second-generation USB 3.2 and NVMe, it is on paper capable of supporting speeds of the order of 1 GB / s in read and write, provided that the connectors follow (supplied with USB cables- C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A).

Guaranteed for three years, it is of course compatible with the AES-256 data encryption standard and can be protected by a password as well as the fingerprint (five fingerprints will be registrable). Its marketing should take place in the coming weeks at prices of $ 129 (500 GB), $ 229 (1 TB) and $ 399 (2 TB). The euro equivalents are not yet known.

As for the Samsung T7 – without the “touch” – it will be released in the second quarter of 2020. It should offer exactly the same shapes and functions, without a fingerprint sensor and at slightly lower prices.
