CES 2020 – AMD formalizes its Radeon RX 5600 XT to counter Nvidia’s GTX 1660 Ti

In early December, we reported on the likely arrival of the Radeon RX 5500 XT later this month, followed by a Radeon RX 5600 XT in January. Since then, we have offered you the test of the first, the second now making its appearance at CES.

Nothing new under the tree, the newcomer obviously uses a Navi chip on RDNA architecture like the Radeon RX 5500 XT and the Radeon RX 5700 XT. The card also has the same number of units as the RX 5700 “Classic” (2304), but is distinguished by memory and operating frequency. The newcomer swaps the 8 GB of GDDR6 (256-bit bus) against only 6 GB, still in GDDR6, but on the 192-bit bus. The effective frequency in play is announced at 1 375 MHz with a maximum attainable of 1 560 MHz – quite below the 1 465 and 1 725 MHz of the RX 5700.

AMD estimates that its graphics card will be 10 to 15% faster than a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. However, announced at $ 279, it should not be less than € 300 when launched in France. What position it rather in front of number of GeForce RTX 2060, Nvidia having skilfully indicated to us that its card would now be sold more and more at this price. Availability is scheduled for January 21.

AMD will also offer a mobile version of the card, sold under the name Radeon RX 5600M. A slightly misleading name, because a “short” Radeon RX 5600 is also planned for integrators (OEM). This RX 5600 will be content with 2,048 computing units. In both cases, availability is expected during the first quarter of 2020.
