CEO Sportpaleis Group: “Jambon’s triumphalism is very misplaced” | Inland

Cultural events may continue, but with a maximum of 200 attendees and health conditions can be met. This was announced by Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA), also responsible for Culture, at the press conference of the Consultation Committee this morning.

The exception for events with more than 200 spectators is temporarily suspended. Sportpaleis Group CEO Jan Van Esbroeck finds “the triumphalism of Prime Minister Jambon very out of place”, he said this afternoon on ‘Het journaal’ (One). “Now telling that culture can continue: that’s nonsense. With the limitations that exist, there is no reasonable way to experience culture. This may be a cloth for bleeding. ”

In addition to the Sportpaleis, the Sportpaleis Group also includes the Lotto Arena and the Stadsschouwburg, all three in Antwerp. In Brussels the group operates Forest National, in Ghent the Capitole and in Hasselt respectively the Ethias Arena and the Ethias Theater.

The theater performances could recently be restarted, but must now close again. “Go back to zero within a week, that is very painful”, it sounds. “We will close our theaters again until better times come. I understand the enormous pressure on the shoulders of the people who have to make the decisions. But I can’t understand this, and we just have to accept it. ” “Accidents are going to happen, you can see that”, says Van Esbroeck.

Cultural events that are allowed to take place will have to take into account the capacity of the hall. For example, it is possible to admit 200 spectators for a performance, for example, if the distance rule of one and a half meters can be guaranteed between the family bubbles.

There is a mouth mask obligation and providing drink and food is out of the question. A large hall can receive up to 200 people, but this is no longer possible in a small hall.
