After 620 years in the Bachkovo holy monastery, a part of the relics of the last Bulgarian patriarch before our fall under Turkish slavery, Patriarch Euthymius, arrived in Sofia for pilgrimage.

Dozens of believers came to seek faith and salvation and prayer before them. “This always happens when a shrine comes to the capital. Will they be miraculous icons or holy relics, as years ago there was a particle of the brothers Cyril and Methodius.

This is a powerful moment, because it reveals the spiritual attachment of Bulgarians to the Orthodox faith and church traditions, which we do not notice in everyday life. But it exists”, Assoc. Professor Kostadin Nushev pointed out to Nova TV.

“Believers who know that Orthodox churches are open every day, that there is a daily service, have the understanding, practice and habit of attending the services and know that this is important not only on Sunday,” said Prof. Nushev.

Patriarch Euthymius is the most authoritative clergyman and hierarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, who, as the Patriarch of Tarn, has great authority not only in Bulgaria, but also in the entire Orthodox world.

“He is the creator of the Tarnovo Book School. Through it, throughout the Slavic world, we have a standardized liturgical literature. All these books, which are now in use throughout the Slavic world, were edited during his time”, added the associate professor.

The reception of the relics on Friday in the Holy Metropolis of Sofia is connected with the establishment of a new holiday in the church calendar, which will be on October 22 – “Glorification of the relics of St. Patriarch Euthymius of Turnovski”.

It will be celebrated for the first time this Sunday in the Bachkovo Monastery. Associate Professor Nushev announced this.
