“C’Chartres Métropole Handball Club Withdraws Head Coach After Poor Results”

On Tuesday, the C’Chartres Métropole Handball club announced the withdrawal of its head coach, Toni Gerona. Blame it on the results below in Liqui Moly Starligue.

He was to leave at the very end of the season but the CCMHB decided otherwise. Toni Gerona will not have had time to complete his last year at the head of the Chartres club in its entirety. This Tuesday, April 11, the management committee announced the withdrawal of his duties as head coach. His replacement is none other than Nebojsa Stojinovic, goalkeeping coach, who was to take on the role of coach from July.

Arrived in 2019, Toni Gerona sees his adventure interrupted. In difficulty since the start of the championship, the CCMHB has made no secret of its desire to renew its staff in recent months. Indeed, in March, the club formalized the appointment of Nebojsa Stojinovic as future coach via a communiqué. This decision was then good news. “Nebojsa has been with us for almost 3 years. He knows the club perfectly, its environment and above all almost all the players in our squad for next season. He shares with us the same vision of handball that we want our team to play”, rejoices the management committee.

“We couldn’t go on like this anymore”

He, who was only to take the reins of the club from July until 2025, was therefore assigned, this Tuesday, April 11, the role of head coach earlier than expected. An assumed choice in view of the negative results of Chartres, which has lost 7 of its last 10 games and which is 14th in the league. “We couldn’t go on like this any longer. The match at Istres, completely insipid, led us, with the management committee, to make this decision”explained Steve Baron, the president of the club.

With 13 points to their credit, the CCMHB now only has a two-point lead over the relegation zone (Istres, 11 points and Sélestat 9 points). With this change of coach, the club has only one ambition: to keep its place in the elite of French handball. “His goal will be to put our collective back on track in order to end the current season in the best possible way”. The task turns out to be more complex than expected. The Chartrains will perform several perilous matches until the end of the regular season, in particular those against Toulouse (sixth), Cesson-Rennes (seventh), Paris (second) and Dunkirk (eighth).
