Causes of NCC Exposure of 2 Submarine Cables in Taiwan and Malaysia Completely Broken

Weng Baizong said in an interview today that Chunghwa Telecom reported back later yesterday that the Taiwan-Malaysia 2 submarine cable was initially judged to have been damaged by Chinese fishing boats on February 2. As for the Taiwan-Malaysia No. 3 submarine cable, according to the automatic identification system, Chunghwa Electronics recorded the Maritime Mobile Services Identification Number (MMSI) and judged that it was suspected to be damaged by MMSI as a cargo ship registered in mainland China on February 8, but the information is still sought by the Coast Guard. CLP has also reported the case to the Coast Guard.

Senior telecom executives who are familiar with the submarine cable business explained that two submarine cables were disconnected at the same time last year. This is the second time that they have contacted 10 ships in succession. Among the international submarine cable ships that can arrive in Taiwan for emergency repairs, it is estimated that the fastest Can arrive in Taiwan on April 20. The international submarine cable ship leaves the port and comes to Taiwan for maintenance. The maintenance cost is calculated in days. The cost of one submarine cable repair is about NT$10 million to NT$20 million.

Weng Bozong mentioned that Matsu’s usual external communication traffic is 8 to 9Gbps. CLP reports that the follow-up microwave backup capacity will be expanded to 3.8Gbps in mid-March, 4.382Gbps at the end of June, and 8.148Gbps by the end of this year, which is the end of the year. The backup capacity can be close to the same level as usual.
