Jakarta

Question:

Greetings Doc, I am a 27-year-old woman. There is neck pain on the left side that spreads to the side of the jaw up to the head.

If you massage it a little, it actually hurts. As far as I remember, I have never sprained or hit myself, either on my neck or head. What’s the cause, Doc?

Answer:

Neck pain is pain that appears both in the back of the neck, the right side of the neck, the left side of the neck, and the front of the neck. Pain can get worse when doing certain movements, for example looking down, looking up, turning the head, and when touched.

Other accompanying symptoms of neck pain can include:

Dizziness Difficulty moving the neck Difficulty swallowing Pain in the face Pain in the shoulders Pain in the upper or lower back Numbness or tingling in the hands

Some causes of neck pain include:

Tight or stiff neck muscles

Most often the cause is due to poor positioning in everyday life. Bending over, looking down, or reading in bed for too long can cause neck muscles to become tense.

Neck joint disorders

It could be arthritis or calcification. Calcification of the cervical spine will interfere with the movement of the neck joints and cause pain.

Pinched nerve

Injury history

Things that can relieve neck pain include:

Avoid using pillows that are too high or hard. Do neck stretches. Compress the neck with ice cubes wrapped in a towel for the first 3 days. After that, compress with a bottle filled with warm water. Avoid neck movements that are too tight or sudden

Mostly, neck pain is caused by muscle stiffness and usually gets better on its own within 1-2 weeks. If the condition has not improved or is getting worse, you should see a doctor.
