I was desperate and in one of those dark moments. I put my head in the oven and turned on the gas. Yes, then you hope you die. Bizarre. But it was butane gas. It didn’t work. “
Keyl says that ten years after the breakup her ex-husband had sent her a letter in which he apologized for his adultery. “I think it’s great that he did that, he didn’t have to write that letter. Later we became good friends.”

This week appeared War Father, the book in which Keyl looks back on the family in which she grew up. Her Jewish father was among others in the resistance during the war and almost completely lost his immediate family after they were murdered in the mass destruction camps in Auschwitz.
The past weighed heavily on her father and, according to Keyl, it may have been reflected in his behavior.
“I never dared to say anything that I thought would make him angry. I was afraid of him. I sometimes wondered: was he already aggressive for the war or was it because of the war? I don’t know the answer.”
