Catalan coastline on the alert as storm Gloria approaches

The Catalan coast is preparing to face a violent winter storm called Gloria. Meteo Cat Services place the entire coastline in red alert (maximum level) for the days of Monday and Tuesday. Authorities recommend avoiding trips near the coast and not venturing onto beaches and piers.

according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the east wind is expected to blow in gusts over 120km / h and generate waves of 7 meters. On the French side, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Météo France announces winds at 110 km / h from Monday afternoon. Further south, local elected officials from the Valencia and Alicante regions have been warned of an “extreme risk situation”.

These strong winds risk disturbing the flow of rivers towards the sea, generating a risk of flooding, while intense rains are announced throughout Catalonia. Between Monday morning and Wednesday evening, the totals could exceed 300 millimeters on Roussillon. En mountain, this precipitation should generate snowfall of an exceptional magnitude.
