Castling in the AUA Supervisory Board – news.ORF.at

There was a castling in the AUA supervisory board – this “to ensure the necessary coordination during the corona crisis”, as the airline announced today. Lufthansa board members Harry Hohmeister and Michael Niggemann resigned from their positions on the AUA supervisory board.

Lufthansa CEO Christina Foerster became the new head of the supervisory board, who succeeded Hohmeister in this role. An extraordinary general meeting was held on April 2. The other Lufthansa board member Detlef Kayser replaces Niggemann as deputy chairman of the supervisory board. The control committee continues to consist of six members.

The limit of 120 million can be exceeded

The AUA got into serious trouble due to the pandemic. Now she needs state aid. Negotiations are ongoing and there appear to be two options. Either the state participates in the AUA, or – and this is more likely according to experts – the federal government grants the AUA a bridging loan.

Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) referred to the 15 billion euro aid fund. Although the maximum aid there is EUR 120 million, it is also clear that more money can flow in individual cases. The decision whether more help is needed not only affects the AUA, but possibly also other companies, said the minister.

SPÖ demands participation

The SPÖ warned of mistakes when saving the AUA. The republic had to participate in the equity of the companies with large companies – specifically with state aid over 100 million euros. “If the taxpayers now save the companies, they must also participate in the upswing and corresponding profits of the companies after the crisis,” said SPÖ industry spokesman Rainer Wimmer.

Vienna welcomes considerations on state aid

The considerations to save Austrian Airlines with state aid were welcomed in Vienna. Only recently it became known that the AUA’s need for money could be higher than previously assumed. If the state helps the AUA, laudamotion also wants state aid.
