Casado says that Sánchez has only repealed “10%” of the labor reform, but maintains his vote against

Pedro Sanchez he insisted again this friday when the opposition should copy “the sense of state” of businessmen and unions and give their support to the new labor reform that the social agents have agreed with the Government. The chief executive has yet four weeks to convince partners habitual that at the moment turn their backs on him (ERC, PNV and Bildu, among others) or on the PP, which is not there for the work either, to vote affirmatively in Congress. Pablo Casado has come to admit this Saturday that the changes introduced in the labor market only suppose the “repeal” of “10%” of the legislation approved by Mariano Rajoy in 2012, but he added that this is not an obstacle to give the green light to the decree-law. Sánchez has not been able to make further modifications, he pointed out, due to the “pressures from Brussels“.

The main argument offered by the PP leader is that the coalition Executive should have “expanded” the reform of ten years ago, to give more “flexibility” to the economy in these pandemic times. In a meeting with mayors of Castilla y León in which he has participated by videoconference, Casado has contrasted the agreement now between the employer’s association and the trade union centrals (something that Rajoy did not achieve, who only agreed to his reform with the employers) with the fact that in 2012 “all European countries” supported the changes made by the then Prime Minister. He has not cited any country. Brussels at that time, in the midst of the crisis and the rescue of the Spanish bank, applauded the cheaper dismissal and the greater power given to companies over workers.

The head of the opposition has also reasoned that it makes no sense for Sánchez to go now to the PP and the rest of the formations to validate the new labor reform in Congress when for months he has not called or consulted changes with anyone.

The Government must succeed in obtaining validation of the decree-law in the lower house (more ‘yeses’ than ‘noes’) before February 5. The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, opened this Monday to make minimal changes in the text to try to attract your partners. His Cabinet colleague, the head of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, was tougher the next day and stressed the need to maintain the “balances” already agreed between unions and employers so that the agreement between them does not blow up. The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, and Bolaños himself have intense days of negotiation with the parliamentary groups ahead of them.
