Cartagena lights up: the Christmas lights were turned on | THE UNIVERSAL

With the ‘Cartagena Es’ campaign, the Mayor’s Office seeks to restore hope to the people of Cartagena, on a date that marks the beginning of Christmas. On December 8, citizens witnessed a ceremony broadcast live via Facebook, which united the hearts of all the Heroic families from their homes, so that they could enjoy the lighting of the Christmas lights.

With an emotional letter addressed to Laura, a girl from La Perimetral, William Dau, the mayor wanted to send a message of gratitude to all Cartagena for their support during this 2020, a year full of adversity. The mayor spoke of the difficulties of the pandemic and also of the passage of Hurricane Iota, recalling that all the promises made to Cartagena are still very present, although health has had to be prioritized. The Christmas lighting was turned on not only in the Historic Center and neighborhoods of the North Zone of the city, but also in San Francisco, El Pozón and La Perimetral.

Stay at home
‘Cartagena Es’ joy, motivation, beauty, stories, but above all it is hope. With a message that invited citizens to stay at home and not forget to maintain biosecurity measures and avoid crowds, Social Manager María Angélica Klee welcomed Christmas in Cartagena.

“A Christmas to resurface and dream”, is how Myrna Martínez Mayorga, the Secretary General, pointed out the concept of this year’s lighting that, with words hidden throughout the lighting, seeks to restore hope to the city.

Mayor Dau sang Christmas carols in English and Spanish to invite the people of Cartagena to enjoy this year’s Christmas season responsibly.
