Why didn’t you go to the Copa América in 2001?
Good question, Arturo: I did not go because at that time I had the opportunity to travel to Italy, I was hired by Udinese and I spoke with Professor “Primi” Maradiaga and told him that I would rather go to preseason with Udinese to adapt to the Series A … It was concluded and I was given permission to leave. Then I regretted leaving because my teammates played a great role, what was done in that Copa América was enormous. It was something that I really missed, but at the same time I enjoyed it because they played a great role.

Who was my best partner in the National Team?
I had very good teammates in the National Team and thanks to them I made many goals in Bicolor. To say one is to disrespect others, we had a great generation and we were all part of each one, putting a grain of sand in each function we had to do. Putting one would be unfair to others; It was a very good generation that cost us four heats to go to a World Cup, we started towards France 1998 and we did it until South Africa 2010; It cost us a lot.

What do you remember of Ciudad Victoria (Mexico) with the Roadrunner?
A small city, where my family settled in very well, we dedicated ourselves to doing what had to be done, playing soccer. I have many beautiful memories and that was where I was nicknamed “El General”, that’s what they told me in Ciudad Victoria because of the look of the hair because at that time the music of the General (Panamanian singer) hit. I was a scoring champion and we fought the final with Tigres back then. In that season its president did not allow any footballer to leave the club and had them all to move the Tigres club to the first division and it was a good idea. We won in the first leg at El Volcán with my goal but on the return we got about four or five, it was a shame for all the fans of Ciudad Victoria where Tigres ascended.

What feeling did the Cuscatlán head goal you made for El Salvador leave you (he qualified for the World Cup in South Africa)?
The same feeling that he left you. It was a wonderful, unforgettable thing. Something that I envisioned and that goal qualified us for the World Cup regardless of what the United States did against Costa Rica. We did our thing as we wanted, to win the game and then God decided what was going to happen. It was unforgettable, an important goal in my career because it led us to a World Cup after many years and I was part of that generation that changed the history of football in our country and was important in my career.

Why did you not give up in Cruz Azul as you did in Celaya?
I arrived at Cruz Azul when “Kikín” Fonseca was in the front center, there was also “El chelito” Delgado and obviously when talking to Professor Romano who told me that there was that possibility of going to Cruz Azul but that he had to compete with those two monsters He told me that when there was an opportunity he would take me into account. As the confidence of Rubén Omar Romano and mine was sincere and I accepted that challenge. I went to Cruz Azul knowing that I was going to be on the bench waiting for that opportunity to collaborate with the team when necessary. I had to wait, I only stayed six months and it is not a parameter to compare what I did in Celaya, which was two and a half years, the same with Morelia. It was a short time that made me wear the Cruz Azul shirt more than anything, not for a favor to Romano, but for helping him because he asked for my services and more than anything for the love that I could not say no because of the love that I have for Romano.

My best memory at Necaxa?
It was a period after Correcaminos arrived at Necaxa and at that time the Televisa company had all three teams; (Necaxa, Atlante and América), were the three clubs of the company. It was a good experience, I had good colleagues and friends. I came to the team very young and the learning was very good, they are very nice memories, we were runners-up with players like, Alex Aguinaga, Adolfo Ríos, Pedro Pineda, Luis Hernández, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, “El Chepo” de la Torre, Montes de Oca; good memories… So it was something important in my career.
