Gareth Bale will be back in the Real Madrid squad for the Copa del Rey round of 16 against FC Elche (Thursday, 7pm CET). “Bale is fine. He will be in the team. Any player who has been called up can play,” said Carlo Ancelotti during the pre-match press session.
After his loan return from Tottenham Hotspur, Bale gave the impression that he could regain his old strength under Ancelotti. But constant injury problems brought the Welshman completely out of step.

Bale caused blushes in November when he traveled to the Wales national team after suffering a ailing match against Belarus, only to injure his strained calf again. This was followed by an illness with the corona virus and, most recently, back problems.
Bale’s return is timely. Marco Asensio will miss Real for three weeks due to injury. Rodrygo and Eden Hazard are likely ahead of Bale in the pecking order though.
