Carice van Houten and Halina Reijn end their business collaboration. The two ran film production company Man Up, but are now going down ‘two different paths’. The duo sees the business split as a ‘deepening of our friendship’.
A few years ago, Reijn and Van Houten founded Man Up Film. Instinct, directed by Reijn, was the company’s first film. Later there was also a TV series for the Belgian VTM. The two actresses said they wanted to ‘tell stories about freedom from a female perspective’.
Van Houten and Reijn say they are proud of what they have achieved with Man Up, but they also noticed that they had each discovered their own unique voice. ‘Gradually two different paths emerged,’ they write. ‘We now want to give each other the space to further shape that individual identity.’
Birdcat
Reijn will now continue alone with Man Up Film while Carice will focus on her new company Birdcat. This focuses on fiction and non-fiction, music and multimedia. Carice has also recently profiled herself emphatically as a climate activist and, for example, makes a climate podcast with Extinction Rebellion buddy Sieger Sloot.
Van Houten and Reijn will continue with their podcast Carice & Halina ‘for the time being’. “The podcast will continue for the time being and if we are still inspired to continue, Man Up will produce it again together with Bird Cat,” Reijn reports.
The business break has no consequences for their friendship, the two assure their followers. “We love each other very much and remain deeply connected as people and creators,” they write.
