“caregivers resign every day”, new mobilization to denounce degraded working conditions

A week after the announcement of a degraded mode in the emergency room, nothing seems to have changed at the Bordeaux University Hospital. Caregivers and doctors were mobilized this morning to denounce a critical situation.

In front of the CHU, the faces are drawn. However, since Wednesday, May 18, the emergency room of the hospital only welcomes serious cases. To come, you must first contact 15.

But in the services, morale remains low. In question, working conditions still as degraded.

We are called on our days off to work overtime and make up for the lack of staff.

Agnès Bourdageaud, emergency nurse at Pellegrin Hospital.

She has worked in this department for three years. Convinced of her profession, she nevertheless regrets not being able to exercise it in good conditions. “We are understaffed, we are advancing as best we can, but it is the patients who suffer. We are more in the benevolence, we live very badly to work like that”regrets the caregiver.

But today, their fears are reinforced by the arrival of tourists. “We are in May and we have around 600 beds closed at the Bordeaux University Hospital. We are very worried about the summer period with the influx of people in Gironde”explains Gilbert Fashionnurse-anesthetist and Sud Santé Sociaux staff representative.

Bordeaux: CHU: mobilization in favor of emergencies

If the misinformation citizens, who sometimes came to the emergency room without being in a serious condition played on the saturation of the service, the representatives recall that the real problem comes from the lack of personnel. “The emergencies, it’s symbolic. But when emergencies are bad, all services are bad”Hammers Gilbert Fashion.

Covid crisis, exhaustion of teams or low salaries, so many problems that have worn people out. “Caregivers resign from the hospital every day to train and practice another profession”regrets Alain Is-Sebbargeneral secretary of the CGT Pilgrim. They would be 900 to have left the hospital in 2021.

Already, during the Ségur de la santé, the unions had obtained a revaluation of 182 €. Too few.

Wages must be increased to attract new people and avoid resignations. The attractiveness of the public hospital is the key.

Alain Es-Sebbar, CGT Pellegrin union representative

Hospital management declined to comment on the matter. She still received the union delegates this morning. They will meet the ARS this afternoon, but the hope of a lasting solution seems far away.

Because the Bordeaux University Hospital is not the only one to sound the alarm: in the department as everywhere in France, other hospitals have been forced to close services for lack of staff.
