(AOF) – Carbios has started construction of its industrial demonstration plant for the enzymatic recycling of plastic waste in PET (polyethylene terephthalate). The demonstrator is located near Lyon on the Kem One site, in the Vallée de la Chimie, the heart of innovation and industrial production in the chemical, environment and cleantech sectors. Carbios is supported and advised by TechnipFMC for the engineering and monitoring of the construction of this demonstrator.
The objective of the demonstrator is to generate enough technical data in order to define the key parameters of each stage of the process on a sufficient scale to project the operation of future industrial units.
The planned operation in the second quarter of 2021 will allow the establishment of complete process engineering documents (from waste to monomers) for the construction and implementation, by a licensee, of the first industrial unit (estimated capacity between 50 and 100 kt per year).
The demonstration unit will make it possible to validate the technical, environmental and economic performance of the innovative technology developed by Carbios and to produce batches of monomers in order to guarantee the technical and regulatory validations of recycled PET with our future licensees.
