The driver is a 30-year-old local man who drove his parents’ car

At least nine people were injured, some seriously after a car swept the outside tables of several restaurants in the Spanish resort town of Marbella.

According to local media, the driver is a 30-year-old local who drove his parents’ car. The man lost control of the vehicle. According to the newspaper “Espanyol”, the man’s parents were also in the car at the time of the accident, TASS notes.

The incident is not considered terrorism.

The driver was detained and an investigation is underway. His alcohol and drug tests were negative. It is checked whether he suffers from a mental illness.

Footage spread on the Internet from the scene of the accident shows ambulances and police officers, as well as waiters trying to help people.

The accident happened in the afternoon, when the area was full of lunch customers, said Raul Morote, whose family owns several restaurants on the popular boulevard.

“The car was meandering and sweeping everything in its path,” Morote told the AP.

He said he had seen emergency medics help nearly a dozen people, some of them in blood.
