Car Retail Sales in Jakarta Experience a Significant Decline in April 2023 Due to Eid Al-Fitr Holidays

Jakarta

Car retail sales for April 2023 experienced a significant decline of up to 28.8%. This happened because there were many holidays in April 2023 due to Eid al-Fitr. Despite the decline, year-to-date sales (January-April 2023) have grown by 6.1%.

As stated by Marketing & Customer Relations Division Head of Astra International Daihatsu Sales Operation (AI-DSO) Hendrayadi Lastiyoso, car retail sales in April 2023 were recorded at only around 68,500. Meanwhile in March 2023, car retail sales were at 96,139 units.

“In the (January-March) 2023 quarter, the automotive market grew by 13.7%, compared to 2022 ago (the same period). But as soon as April, the automotive market fell once. Why? Because we know there is Eid and now it is a holiday Eid is very long, so there are only 19 working days in April,” opened Hendrayadi on the sidelines of the All New Daihatsu Ayla test drive in Yogyakarta (11-13/5/2023).

“So last year, if Eid was in May, the automotive market was 62,000 units. Eid 2023 is one month ahead to April, but sales (68,500 units) are still higher than the month with Eid last year. Even though last year’s Eid holiday, it seems work more than this year. This means that the automotive market is better,” he continued.

Hendrayadi continued, explaining that the decline in car retail sales in April 2023 had also affected the growth in car sales in the January-April 2023 period.

“Because April fell once, the Indonesian automotive market year to date April, this is growing now-from the first quarter of 2023 it grew 13.7%-to only 6.1%. But it’s still growing,” he said.

“In April 2023, (retail car sales) were 68,500 to be exact. Compared to the previous month (96,139 units), the automotive market fell drastically by 28.8%. Why (decrease)? Because there are only 19 working days. going home too, both the customers, we are also on vacation,” he continued.

Especially for the Daihatsu brand, its sales also fell in April 2023. But year to date from January to April 2023, the brand with the letter ‘D’ logo experienced quite high market growth compared to the growth of the national automotive market.

“Year to date April, the automotive market was 339,700, growing only 6.1%. What about Daihatsu? Daihatsu last April was 14,001, down 24.3% compared to March. Year to date April, this number now we have sold around 71,600 “How does this compare to April 2022 year to date? Daihatsu has increased by 14.8%, twice the increase in the national automotive market,” said Hendrayadi.
