Car market Italy 2021: still negative signs in June

Also in June 2021, the Italy car market remains below pre-pandemic levels. Specifically, in the month just ended they were registered 149,438 registrations equal to a 13.3% drop compared to the same month of 2019 (172,300 units). On the other hand, a growth of 12.6% is recorded if we compare the data with that of 2020. Looking at the first 6 months of the year, we note a loss in volumes of about 200,000 units compared to the same period in 2019. Compared to the dramatic 2020, the first 6 months of 2021 mark an increase of 51.6%. According to UNRAE, several factors weighed on the June 2021 result, including the end of the incentives and the chip supply crisis and components.

Following a fruitful meeting of the Automotive Table with the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti and the Deputy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the president of UNRAE, Michele Crisci, hopes that new measures will soon arrive in support of the automotive sector.

We hope that the Ecobonus will be extended until 2026 for the emissions range between 0 and 60 g / km of CO2 and, upon conversion of the Sostegni-bis Decree Law, the refinancing of incentives for the 61-135 range for the whole of 2021. g / km in the face of scrapping, so as not to nullify the results obtained so far.

Returning to the data for the month of June of the Italian market, from the point of view of users, we note a further decline among private individuals compared to 2019 equal to 8.5%. The market share is 57%. As far as self-registrations are concerned, there was a decline of 41.9% with a share in the month of 11.1%. On the other hand, the long-term rental is good, with an increase of 8.5% for a share that rises to 19.5%. As for the short-term rental, in June it recorded a decline of 28.6% equal to a share of 7.1%. The companies with a monthly share of 5.2% are also down.

Speaking of power supplies, the positive moment of electrified cars continues (hybrid, plug-in and electric). Specifically, hybrids (HEVs) have a share of 27.4% in June, while both electric and plug-in cars reach 4.7%. The decline in petrol and diesel cars continues with a share of 30.3% and 22.4% respectively. LPG (8.2% share) and methane (2.4% share) slightly increased.

Looking at the data from the point of view of the segments, there is a general decline with a slight recovery in share for the small cars compared to a slight contraction for the D segment.

Regarding the automotive groups, most get negative results (the comparison is always with 2019). For example, Stellantis is down by 12.26%. The Volkswagen Group “limits” the losses with a -3.29%. The drop was more noticeable for the Renault Group with a -27.79%. On the other hand, the result of the Toyota Group was positive with a growth of 7.35%.

The results of the Italian auto market therefore continue to be negative. At this point it will be interesting to understand if the Government will really go to the facts with new measures in support of this sector.
