Since 2004, travelers’ fingerprints have been recorded at airports in the USA and their faces have been photographed. This will soon also be possible in Zurich.

Anyone who has already been to the USA, Japan or China knows the procedure: Upon entry, fingerprints are scanned at the airport and the face is photographed. Anyone arriving at Zurich Airport from countries like India or Kosovo in the future will experience something similar. According to estimates by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), around 900,000 people in Zurich would have been recorded in this way in 2019.
The canton police, which are responsible for border controls at Zurich Airport, have to arm themselves for more than 43 million francs. Last week, the Security Directorate awarded a corresponding contract to the German security company Secunet Security Networks AG. It was the only company to apply.
