Sander Berge and his agent Mike Kjølø have not answered VG’s inquiries about the criticism from Storey, but national team manager Lars Lagerbäck also closely follows Berges situation in the English team. He is not currently concerned and believes Berge is being used incorrectly.
“I don’t think he works best in his role at Sheffield United,” Lagerbäck told NTB about Berges’ situation.
– As long as he gets good playing time, I’m not worried about Sander. He is an incredibly competent player. He works hard for the team and does what he can out of the role he has, he says.
Lagerbäck adds that he believes that Berge should not contribute which is his great strength.
– He probably doesn’t quite have the optimal role there, as I think he should have. But it is up to the coach in Sheffield to judge where he thinks he is best, says the Swede.

In Sheffield United, Berge has primarily played as a runner-up in the team’s preferred 3–5-2 formation, while in previous clubs he has played mostly as the anchor in midfield. When he was substituted for Oliver Norwood ahead of the second round at Old Trafford, Berge was given a rare chance in what has been his preferred role.
– I play in a new role that requires more running. It was almost like I had cramp long before I was replaced. I haven’t had cramp in Belgium in seven months, so I felt it. Here’s a huge demand, but that’s how I expect it to be, Berge told VG after his first match for Sheffield United back in February.
– It felt during the break that I had played a whole game. It is going to run tremendously, and with high intensity. There is never a break. It’s going really fast, Berge said at the time.
Sunday is ready for a new match. Then Sheffield United will take on Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Sheffield United has struggled after the corona break, taking only one point in three games.
– It hurts, we’re not used to losing. We want to be competitive, and we haven’t been since the second goal against Newcastle, “manager Chris Wilder said at a press conference ahead of the weekend’s match.
