More than 90% effective for serious cases of coronavirus, presented the vaccine against covid-19 from the CanSino laboratory, whose study is led by the Universidad de La Frontera in Temuco, Araucania region. The authorization for its massive use will be analyzed in the coming days.
This is a trial carried out in southern cities such as Temuco, Valdivia, Osorno and Puerto Montt, as well as Concepción and Santiago, which involved the Austral University and San Sebastián, under the direction of the Universidad de La Frontera.
The study of the vaccine by the Chinese-Canadian consortium, CanSino, already shows its first conclusions and, according to the rector of Ufro, Eduardo Hebel, is 91% effective for severe cases of covid-19.
Taking into account the good results, Hebel confirmed that his emergency approval has already been requested from the Institute of Public Health.
Although at the beginning it was expected to have 5,000 volunteers nationwide, the 3,500 reached represent the highest number of people recruited for this purpose, in a vaccine that works with just one dose and -so far- has shown no serious adverse effects.
Given the auspicious results in this phase of the study, the rector of Ufro surveyed the work of southern universities, which, he said, demonstrates the ability to develop research and generate knowledge in this part of the country.
