“Canon’s New Mirrorless Camera EOS R100: A Modern Twist on Old School Technology”

Jakarta

Canon released a new mirrorless camera called EOS R100, which, although it’s a new product, is actually old school. How come?

This new mirrorless seems to have a lot in common with Canon’s old camera, the EOS M50 Mark II. The sensor is the same as a 24.1 MP APS-C with a Digic 8 processor. The EVF is also a 2.36 point OLED, and the 4K recording mode is cropped, just like it was done in the EOS M system.

In fact, some of the features that are usually present in the latest mirrorless cameras are missing. For example screens that can be rotated, in body stabilization, webcam streaming, and also touch screens. Yes, the EOS R100’s screen is not a touch screen. But there are still other features such as dual pixel autofocus eye tracking, and a very small body.

So you could say that the EOS R100 is actually the EOS M50 Mark II but with a new RF mount, which is compatible with Canon’s latest mirrorless lenses. But indeed, with a price of USD 479.99, the EOS R100 is an entry-level mirrorless.

It’s unfair when compared to cameras like the EOS R50, which are more expensive and have more complete features. In addition, the EOS M50 Mark II when it was first released cost almost USD 800, or almost twice as much as the EOS R100, whose specifications were very similar.

The new EOS R100 will be available from next July, available in several versions. Body only costs USD 479.99, then the package with the kit lens RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is USD 599.99, and the package with two zoom lenses RF-S 18-45mm and RF The -S 55–210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM costs USD 829.99.

There is also a new lens released by Canon, namely the RF 28mm f/2.8 STM which is a pancake lens priced at USD 299.99. This lens is compatible with APS-C bodies or full frame. The size is only slightly larger than the camera body cap, as quoted by detikINET from The Verge, Friday (26/5/2023).
