Canon gives EOS-1D X Mark III SLR camera suggested retail price of 7420 euros – Image and sound – News

Canon has introduced the EOS-1D X Mark III SLR camera. Just like its predecessor, this high-end camera excels in speed and is therefore aimed at sports and nature photographers. The camera has a slightly adjusted sensor, fast chips and a higher photography speed.

The Canon EOS-1D Mark III has an updated sensor with a resolution of 20.2 megapixels of the full-frame format. In terms of resolution, that is completely comparable to the predecessor, but according to Canon, the new sensor is equipped with a new low-pass filter that should provide more detail in the shot images. In addition, the addition of the new Digix X processor. According to the manufacturer, this chip leads to an image processing speed that is three times as fast as the EOS-1D Mark II, and the processing of the Dual Pixel autofocus by this chip is 380 times faster. This concerns either phase detection pixels on the sensor that cover 90 percent of the surface horizontally and the full height. In addition, there is a Digic 8 processor that is specifically intended for autofocus and exposure measurement via the viewfinder.

The new camera has an increased shooting speed. Where the predecessor achieved a speed of 14fps with the use of the mirror and the optical viewfinder, with the EOS-1D X Mark III this was increased to 16fps. In the live mode, where the mirror is raised and the rear screen is used, the new camera reaches a speed of 20fps; that was 16fps with the EOS-1D X Mark II. New is the possibility to save photos in heif format, which is a file format with 10bit display and compression.

Canon says that the autofocus system of the new camera has head and face tracking and has been trained through deeplearning. A total of 191 focus points are available, of which 155 are cross-sensitive. The buffer is almost infinite with 1000 photos, although that can be increased by the use of CF Express cards for the two slots present, both of which support this type of memory.

In the field of video, the necessary improvements have also been made. The camera can record videos in raw in 12bit with a resolution of 5.5k and 60 frames per second, achieving a bit rate of 2600Mbit / s. A crop is applied here; without crop 4k with 60fps in 10bit with 4: 2: 2 sampling is possible. Canon’s C-Log profile is also built in, the device has an Ethernet connection and can be equipped with an optional WiFi module. There are connections for a 3.5 mm microphone, headphones and a mini HDMI connection.

The camera is available from February for a suggested retail price of 7,420 euros. The 1D X Mark II from 2016 cost 6400 euros at the release and is currently in the Pricewatch for 5,500 euros.
