Canelo Álvarez to Open Taqueria in San Diego with Guadalajara Flavor – NBC 7 San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Any immigrant can identify with the sentiment that led the best boxer in the world, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, to open his own taqueria in San Diego.

Yes, Canelo Alvarez may have been in San Diego promoting his upcoming fights on Wednesday, but we had something else on our minds: the tacos.

“One day I woke up with a craving for tacos and obviously the tacos that are here are not the same as what we eat in Mexico and the truth is, his taqueria is one of the best in Mexico,” Álvarez said.

So he decided to call his brother Ricardo Álvarez, who had previously spoken with TELEMUNDO 20, and told him to open their own taqueria in San Diego.

THE NAME OF THE CANELO TAQUERÍA IN SAN DIEGO

The Álvarez brothers will open the El Pastor Del Rica taqueria in San Diego.

The pair opted for Chula Vista, at 645 Broadway Chula Vista CA. The old auto parts store is being remodeled into what will be an authentic Mexican taqueria where the king will be the “al pastor taco”, also known as adobado on this side of the border.

“The idea is to bring the same flavor from Guadalajara, because if not, I told him there is no point. There is the same thing, the tacos here are not very good, but it is what it is and it is what people eat,” said Álvarez, who assures that once the people try the flavor of Guadalajara “so that the people try what really are tacos”.

According to Ricardo Álvarez, the menu will have traditional tacos such as pastor, lengua, tripa, chorizo, suadero and campechano, as well as quesadillas. And to accompany that authentic taco al pastor, nothing like a refreshing clear water of various natural flavors.

So now you know, Canelo also wants to be the taco champion in San Diego.

In all seriousness, we also wanted to know about Alvarez’s upcoming bouts. He also spoke to NBC 7 and Telemundo 20 about golf and life in San Diego.

The Aztec fighter had his press conference prior to what will be his fight this coming May 7, but he also talked about why he chose San Diego to make his concentration

The “Canelo” who lived until 2015 in a luxurious mansion in Del Mar divides his time in Guadalajara and San Diego.
