Cancellations of concerts and cultural events in Puerto Rico in the face of the coronavirus alert



Following the alert for the pandemic of COVID-19, The governor Wanda Vázquez Garced, announced this afternoon that he ordered to cancel or postpone until after March 31 the celebration of events with large numbers of public, “such as concerts, festivals and meetings.”

Meanwhile, since it was announced last night that a Panamanian citizen who tested positive for coronavirus participated in Puerto Rico’s National Zalsa Day and a dance, organizations and productions of shows began to disclose the postponement of their events from early on.

Below, we compile the events whose cancellation has been reported, according to the order in which they should be held:

Saturday, March 14

“#Low they get offended”, from Mollusc: The announcer Jorge Pabón “El Molusco” announced that he postponed his show, “#Low to be offended” in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, in the face of the health emergency that occurs in the world with the coronavirus and as a preventive measure. The comedy and music show was scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 9:00 p.m. with a capacity of 15,000 tickets sold. The announcer promised to announce today through his social networks the new date for the event.

Symphonic concert: The family concert that the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra had scheduled for this Saturday, at 4:00 p.m., at the Pablo Casals Symphony Hall, in Santurce, was postponed for a date soon to be announced. The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, through the public relationist Lemil Collazo, confirmed that the event, which would cost $ 5 per person, will be held later, according to the availability of dates. This concert, entitled “Our musical heritage, 500 years of San Juan”, would present a tour to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the island of San Juan.

“Miss Barbara”: The production house Teatro Sol y Luna announced the postponement of the staging of “Doña Bárbara”, scheduled for March 14, 16 and 17 at the Theater of the University of Puerto Rico. The event would have a function for the general public on Saturday, and student functions on Monday and Tuesday. “We understand the situation and we should not expose these children. The purpose of the play is none other than to learn more about our theater, so we responsibly canceled the shows. We regret the inconvenience this may cause them,” said the director of the work, José Armando Santos, in a statement. The new dates for the performances are May 13 and 14 for students and a single performance for the general public on May 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the UPR Theater, Río Piedras campus. Sunday, March 15

The Puma: The concert of singer and actor José Luis Rodríguez “El Puma” that would take place this Sunday, March 15, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, was postponed until next, August 16. It was reported that the ticket of every person who has bought it will be honored and that if they cannot attend the event on the new date, the money will be returned.

Friday, March 20

The Rabanes: The SBA radio conglomerate announced the cancellation of the Los Rabanes show scheduled for Friday, March 20 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. SBS will announce the new date later.

Sunday, March 22

Attention attention: The children’s group notified the postponement of the concert they planned to offer on Sunday, March 22 at the Coca Cola Music Hall. “The well-being and health of our children come first, just like that of their parents. We want to be responsible for the situation the world is experiencing due to COVID-19. Together with producer José Dueño, we have decided to postpone our concert. Thank you for always supporting us and see you soon, ”said Víctor Rivera, director of Atencion Atencion. The new date of the concert will be announced soon.
