Presented behind closed doors for a TV and web audience, the Canada Day 2020 celebrations will highlight the new stars of Quebec music and will echo the Black Lives Matter movement.
Co-host for the second year in a row of the great show in Ottawa, Pierre-Yves Lord says that he could not imagine ignoring the death of George Floyd and the global awareness it caused.
“As a human, as a father and as a black man, I don’t want to put my head in the sand and say that Canada Day is not the place for talk about what worries and troubles me. ”
Pierre-Yves Lord mentions an issue of an artist who will be “very busy” and will allow Black Lives Matter to interfere in the celebration.
A week after the controversy surrounding the absence of Quebec flags at Saint-Jean, the host did not comment on the presence of the maple leaf during Wednesday’s celebrations. He prefers to speak of a spectacle which “goes beyond our political allegiances”.

Thanks to the participation of Charlotte Cardin, Loud, Alexandra Stréliski and Laurence Nerbonne, among others, the various festivals of Canada will give visibility to young talents from Quebec.
“It is a great chance, but it is sure that I try to represent my generation through my art. We are a generation that wants to help and help themselves. As we have seen with Black Lives Matter, there is a collective awakening to listen and to modify our old patterns as a society. It is the same with sexism, against which I took a stand, “said Laurence Nerbonne.
