It’s in the mid-90s, on the show Star Seeds which aimed to discover and bring out new talents, that the public discovers for the first time the character of Brice de Nice in the sketch The Surfer. A pretentious and egocentric character, obsessed with his appearance, spending his time “breaking up” those around him.
It was a very young Jean Dujardin – before the actor revealed himself to the general public a few years later with the series Un Gars, une fille – who had been playing this surfer for some time already when he was part of the Troupe du Carré Blanc, in which we also found Bruno Salomone or Eric Collado.
The character is gaining popularity, in particular thanks to an internet that is experiencing its infancy. Its success became such that Jean Dujardin decided to try the adventure of cinema by adapting the universe of the surfer on the big screen.
The film directed by James Huth was released in 2005 with Clovis Cornillac, Bruno Salomone, Elodie Bouchez and Alexandra Lamy in the cast. The success of the feature film will be there, giving rise to a sequel ten years later in 2016 with part of the original cast returning to their roles, but without the two actresses from the first part.
